Here's how we got here...

1980's

GANGSTERS gets BORN

  • GANGSTERS begins as an original game played outdoors on summer nights
  • Cherries (then called "the goods") are made by stuffing grass into sandwich bags (and on occasion flour)
  • Money has only one denomination ($100,000) and is made in-game by a "counterfeiter"
1980's Equipment

1990's

GANGSTERS goes to SCHOOL

  • GANGSTERS is played at college for the first time; games last weeks instead of hours
  • Cherries shrink and are made from yarn; new colors are introduced, and (voila!) the term "cherry" is coined
  • Money grows to 3 denominations

2000's

GANGSTERS goes to WORK

  • Games get played at a pizzeria, a warehouse, and a factory
  • Cherries evolve into painted game tokens
  • Individual bills replace stacks for convenience; money expands to 6 denominations

2010's

GANGSTERS gets NEW BLOOD

  • A new generation emerges to carry GANGSTERS forward
  • Cherries get a nifty new makeover and grow to 7 unique kinds
  • Custom money debuts

  • GANGSTERS gets a website (finally!) and a fresh set of rules
  • Money and cherries get stripped down for easier reproduction and (potential) manufacturing
